Engagement Session in the Woods (John + Kristin)

I met up with John and Kristin on a hot Friday evening in the spring for their engagement session.  They were working overtime on wedding stuff (planning a party for ALL your favorite people is no joke, as you know) and showed up looking classy and cool (I couldn't wait to get these two in front of old stone walls when I saw these outfits!) ...but told me how beat they were.  We took a few minutes to chat and chill and I dare say they did just fine. (See below.)

I mention this because I know it's quite a bit of work to get out of the house for a photo session and it is so common to feel frazzled and stressed when we begin!  I have more thoughts on this, but for now, just know that folks who show up feeling crazy still love their final images.

John and Kristin, I loved getting to know you and see just how much you care for one another.  Lovely in my camera and lovely in real life.  xo.

My Girl

Eila girl, I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees.  Love you and your paintings of lions (mane and all!), pretend everything, and the gentleness God gave you about it all.  Thankful to be your mama.  xo.

Theresa has been one of my closest friends for years.  We had a joint sweet 16 birthday party, took pictures together before high school dances, and historically caught up over meals in diners (diet coke and salad for her, crispy chicken salad for me).

She met her beau, and, like only brave souls can do, dropped everything and moved to Germany with him.  She's one of the hardest workers I know and I'm one of many who value her friendship.  This woman is...the woman.

About the beautiful flag Austin is laying on (scroll way down) in two images: Anthony's grandmother had the flag flown over the white house on his 16th birthday and then gifted it to him.  Since then it has flown in the back of his plane on missions around the world.  What a legacy and a gift - to Austin and to the rest of us.

Thank you for having me, A + T.  Your little one is adorable and I'm thrilled that I can now hop in my car and come see you.  :)

How to get professional photos to Instagram

You scheduled the session, picked out the outfits, decided on a location, avoided coffee spills and diaper blowouts for an hour, and just received your images back from the session.  You LOVE them and immediately want to print them / frame them / call your mom / post one - er, five -  on Instagram.

If your method of getting photos that came from a real camera (i.e. not your phone) to Instagram involves some combination of downloading / emailing / screen shots, might I offer another way?

I'm sure there are other methods, but here's a simple one: dropbox.  To do this, you'll need a (free) dropbox account and the dropbox app on your phone.

  1. 1. On your computer, save the image file (or copy and paste) to dropbox
  2. 2. Open the dropbox app on your phone and find the file
  3. 3. Tap at the top right to expand options (next to your user profile icon) and select "export"
  4. 4. Select "save image" and it will export the file to your camera roll
  5. 5. Open Instagram and voila, your image is right there ready for you.  (It propagates cropped so zoom out if you want to display the whole image.)

Say goodby to fuzzy images and show off those beauties you invested in!  Any other methods you love?
