What I'm Giving this Valentine's Day

personal, Weddings, newborn, Engagement, Portraitsjacqueline horning1 Comment

A friend was recently talking about a chapter in a book called The Meaning of Marriage that inspired my not-so-original idea for a Valentine's Day gift.  Perhaps an odd place for inspiration, but I'm hoping it will be well received.  The idea?  Words.

The book briefly describes catching a vision of our spouse in perfected form - the fullest, truest version of themselves.  Cool concept, isn't it?  (The book's explanation is much better.)  All that to say: I've been thinking about this and wanted to encourage my man this Valentine's Day with what I see in him.

Things like, for example, the way he strives for excellence in everything he creates.  Or the way he calmly and fearlessly solves problems.  And that I'm thankful that he is lighthearted and playful (No wonder he gets the best giggles from our little girl!).

What better gift than to tell the one(s) we love how lovely they are to us?  Happy Valentine's Day to you and the ones you love!  Who are...

...becoming kinder and stronger as the years go on.

...amazing, even though they are only a few days old.

...determined, strong, sleep-deprived, and radiant.

...your favorite partner in the midst of life's (awesome) craziness.

...more beautiful now than ever.

...incredible, just because they are here and yours.

Have a wonderful weekend with the ones you love!

Tiny Little Twinkle Toes

How sweet is this little peanut?  Born perfectly healthy and perfectly tiny, this little girl is swimming in her newborn sized clothes. (And diapers!  Yikes.  Never fear, her dad is an engineer.)  I have known Andrew and Melissa for a long time now and love the chance to see them as parents.  It's funny how having a baby is such a huge change, and yet they (and so many others) walk into it naturally and seem more like themselves than ever.

Here's a few images from our morning together.  Love you already baby C!

Meet baby Corey.

Have you ever seen a more adorable scrunched up expression?  I so enjoyed meeting this little wonder.  Brenna was relaxed and easy going and beautiful.  Nick was proud and more proud, rejoicing over baby's expressions and accidents ("that's my boy!").  That's just what I love about newborn sessions: everything is worth celebrating.  Congrats B + L!  He's just wonderful.

(I love this last one.  She's workin' it and doesn't even know it!)

Happy New Year!

personal, Portraitsjacqueline horningComment

While this year is not ending in a bang in the literal sense (the flu epidemic is present in our living room and I hear it's in yours, too), that's okay.  One of the best things about being married to P is that he doesn't let me lose perspective.  This year was pretty wonderful.

I'm thankful for a lively, happy, healthy little girl.  As my P said, "that's #1, 2 and 3" on his list of this year's highlights.  It's amazing how much joy comes in taking care of someone else.  It doesn't hurt that I think she's adorable.  :)

I'm thankful for great times with family alongside the ocean, a lake, and a roller coaster.  For the chance to watch those I love handle hard things with wisdom and grace.  To know and live near friends as they start new chapters of their lives, and others as they long for the next chapter.  And I'm thankful to have met so many new babies - isn't it incredible that they weren't here...and now they are? And we'll never go back, nor would we ever want to.

I'm thankful for YOU - for your babies and marriages and for letting me enter into them for just a few hours.  I love what I do and have such wonderful clients.

Oh, and do you like these images?  I'm a little bashful about posting them since "dressing up" for a photo shoot isn't a normal occurrence for E and I...but I made an exception and think they say "happy new year" pretty well.  Hopefully you'll appreciate the sentiment.

Wishing the happiest of holidays to you and yours!
