It's Black and White [Personal Project]

personaljacqueline horningComment

I've heard about quite a few daily photo projects over time, but they all seemed to require too much thinking for me.  I wish it weren't the case, but I don't trust myself to remember to get out the camera (or even iphone!) every day and take a picture.  (Side note: I've often thought there are too many things to do daily that "just take 20 minutes".  Read this, exercise that, clean that one thing, pick up those items...have you ever thought this?)

Recently though, I heard the idea to set an alarm and take a picture at that time.  I loved the idea!  I don't have to remember to take a picture every day, but I am still challenged for a moment when the alarm goes off.  There aren't a lot of rules - I just aim to capture my surroundings in an aesthetically pleasing way without changing them.

On the days when I think, "what on earth do I want to photograph here?" I really love it.  I'm forced to think...and then just take a picture.  Just do it.  That's really good for me.

So far, I love it because I'm forced to intentionally think about why I'm pressing the shutter and it's already fun to look back and see where I've been at 1:46pm.

The last few days have turned out to be black and white images.  Like many lifestyle images or casual portraits, I like the images better in groups; the lines and areas of dark light compliment each other.  This is one of my favorite things about albums, events, decor, "getting ready" images - and daily life!

Have you tried this kind of challenge?  Did you like it?  How did you grow from it?  xo

JHP Wedding Albums

Weddings, Real Lifejacqueline horningComment

I wanted to show off these beautiful albums and offer a visual for what I offer as WEDDING Albums compared to other albums.  They are really lovely and the best way to re-live your wedding day.  Pages are printed as a spread (the two pages you see when the book is open) so there is no gap between two pages.  Each page is mounted on stiff boards to create extra thick pages and bound in a traditional flush mount style.

Aren't they beautiful?  They are a great combination of simplicity and polish.  There are seven fabric options for the cover that you can view in person at a consultations.

Do you have an album?  Are you pleased with it?  I look at mine more than I would have thought.  There's something about a book in hand and the way we looked that day - dreamy, happy, full of anticipation and emotion.  I see that look he gives me in the rare moments when he's sentimental and teary as he's waiting at the alter and - ah! - I'm right back to that wonderful day in September.  xo

So, I have to tell you.  I know I do this professionally and see you (my clients) briefly, but I really like you.  It sounds trite, but being present at your wedding or in your home five days post-birth is really special, and I don't forget you easily.

Meeting Sheri and Jon for a maternity session a few years after their wedding was so fun.  "You look good!  Even better than 2.5 years ago!  And look, you glow as a bride AND as a pregnant woman!"  I tone it down to be cool, but I love seeing clients again.

For this session, we met up in Independence Square Park.  It snowed the day before and gave us the most wonderful backdrop.

Can't wait to meet this little one in May!  xo

Irish (newborn) Eyes

I have some sweet images of a new family of four to share, and I promise it is a complete coincidence that I'm talking about their Irish heritage on St. Patrick's Day!  (That did work out well though, didn't it?)

I heard from this mama just after her second daughter was born.  This newborn session was extra special for me because Crystal and I met in college when we lived on the same floor (Tener Hall!) during our freshman year at Penn State.  My parens moved me in, said goodbye, and I walked out to a floor meeting and met Crystal.  The people we meet as freshmen seem to stick more than other years, don't they?

Moving on to what I really want to say: this beautiful baby girl is here!  Crystal got in touch when they were home from the hospital and we quickly set up a time for me to come out and meet them.  I love that the Duffys used Irish spellings for both of their girls names.  Caitrin sounds lovely and original, doesn't it?

Isn't she beautiful?  I love the personalized feel of her knit hat and blanket, too.

Welcome to the world, little Caitrin!  xo
